3 Must See Spots in the River Oaks

River Oaks Theatre

Looking for fun in the River Oaks area? Uptown Cosmetic & Implant Dentistry has you covered. Here are the 3 Must See Spots in the River Oaks.

1. River Oaks Theatre

You can find the River Oaks theatre at the corner of West Gray and Shepherd at the River Oaks Shopping Center. Built by Interstate Theatre Corp. in 1939, it was the last in the line of deluxe neighborhood theatres built by the company. Today, it is operated by Landmark Theatres, but it still boasts its late 1930s Art Deco design. You won’t find any box-office hits here; River Oaks primarily focuses on independent film and foreign language cinema. Next time you are in the mood for something other than the regular movie experience, check out the historic River Oaks Theatre.

2. Houston 3 Must See Spots in the River Oaks

Located less than 10 minutes north of Uptown on Woodway Drive, you’ll find the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center. The 155 acres of urban forest is home to more than 160 species of birds, 33 species of butterflies, and many other kinds of native Texas wildlife. Experience an East Texas swamp on the R.A. Vines Trail or watch birds on the Charlotte Couch Birding Platform. Topics such as medicinal plants and garden photography are covered in Nature Center classes throughout the year. If you are looking for an escape from city life, look no further than the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center.

3. The Menil Collection

About 15 minutes from Uptown at 1533 Sul Ross St., you’ll find The Menil Collection. It could more accurately be described as a campus as it features several buildings including the main building, Cy Twombly Gallery, Dan Flavin Installation at Richmond Hall, and the Rothko Chapel among others. While the museum regularly hosts special exhibitions, its own collection “is built around several types of art loved and collected from the 1940s to the 1990s by the Menil Collection’s founders, John and Dominique de Menil” (taken from Menil’s about page). If admiring thousands of works of art from the prehistoric era to the present day sounds appealing to you, be sure to stop by this unique collection.

After you have taken the time to visit River Oaks’ must-see spots, stop by Uptown for all of your cosmetic dentistry needs. We’ll get your smile looking as beautiful as the art at The Menil Collection and as natural as the wildlife at the Arboretum. I hope you find enjoyment in these 3 Must See Spots in the River Oaks.
